
Frances T. McCarthy, MS, PMHNP, RNC-NIC, CPLC
Fran McCarthy, MS, PMHNP, RNC-NIC, CPLC, received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1984 and her Master’s of Science as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner from Columbia University in 1998.
She is a former Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurse, and is currently a senior member of the Neonatal Comfort Care Program (NCCP) at Columbia University’s Irving Medical Center. In her role, she helps women and their families facing life-limiting prenatal diagnoses in their babies and supports them during pregnancy, through delivery, and beyond. She is the program educator. In addition, she co-facilitates a virtual support group for bereaved parents. Her extensive career in the NICU prepared her to accompany families through grief and loss.
Fran was the 2023 recipient of the Ilene Beal Courageous Provider Award from the Courageous Parents Network, and the 2023 recipient of the Cunniff Dixon Nursing Award from the Hastings Center. She is certified in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing through the National Certification Corporation (NCC), and is also Certified in Perinatal Loss Care (CPLC) through the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center.
