Meet Our Team

Aileen Ocana

Staff

Aileen Ocana was born into a hardworking immigrant family in Chicago but live her childhood and adolescence in Michoacan Mexico. As a first-generation Mexican American with a deep love for language and culture, she feels proud of her cultural identity, her parents inculcate in her the values of perseverance, education, and community. Aileen’s fascination with storytelling and communication began early. She dreamt about amplifying and empowering the voices of her community.

After graduating from university with a degree in Communications in Mexico City, she embarked on a journey that would shape her life, she moved back to Chicago and started her professional career. For over 20 years, Aileen worked in the Spanish communications industry with Univision, she is a very well recognized voice in Chicago area, her work includes radio, tv, community engagement and public affairs, also she is a contributor to the Spanish-language newspaper La Raza. Her efforts have always focused on sharing information that resonates with a diverse Hispanic audience, in addition to presenting critical topics for the immigrant community such as education, immigration, and healthcare, among others.

Currently she is part of the Spanish content Communication team for Postpartum Support International (PSI). Aileen is excited to support and expand the perinatal health services to the LatinX and Spanish-speaking communities, as well as promote the variety of resources available to assist mothers facing challenges during pregnancy and postpartum.

Aileen Ocana es primera generación mexicoamericana, descendiente de padres
inmigrantes, y es graduada en Ciencias de la Comunicación. Nacida en Chicago,
creció en Michoacán, México, y desde hace más de 20 años radica nuevamente en
el lugar que la vio nacer, la ciudad de los vientos.


Con profundo cariño por su cultura y lenguaje, ella se siente más que orgullosa de
su identidad cultural. Sus padres le inculcaron siempre el valor de la educación, la
perseverancia y el sentido de la comunidad. La fascinación de Aileen por las
historias comenzó desde que soñaba con resaltar y empoderar a su comunidad.
Luego de graduarse de la universidad en México, se embarcó en la aventura de
regresar a Chicago y ejercer su carrera profesional. Por más de dos décadas, Aileen
trabajó en la industria de los medios en español con Univision Chicago y además
es colaboradora del Periódico en español La Raza. Es una apasionada periodista
bilingüe y una voz reconocida en la comunidad local. Su trabajo incluye radio,
televisión y prensa, colaborando con medios locales y nacionales, además de
involucrarse en la agenda comunitaria y asuntos públicos. Su labor siempre se ha
enfocado en compartir información que resuene entre una audiencia diversa de la
población hispana, además de presentar temas críticos para el colectivo inmigrante
como educación, inmigración y salud entre otros.


Actualmente, forma parte del equipo de comunicación para contenidos en español
de Postpartum Support International (PSI). Aileen se siente emocionada de apoyar
y expandir el alcance de los servicios de salud perinatal a la comunidad LatinX e
hispanohablante, además de promover la variedad de recursos disponibles de ayuda
para madres de familia que enfrentan desafíos durante el embarazo y postparto.
