Maternal mental health is a significant factor in certain criminal cases. However, a lack of familiarity with perinatal mental health disorders may hinder the identification of this crucial aspect of a client’s case. Postpartum Support International offers a live online presentation designed to provide essential information about perinatal mental health disorders, including a practical approach for criminal attorneys. Developed by perinatal mental health professionals and criminal defense attorneys with experience in cases involving mental health, this 2-hour presentation aims to educate and equip legal professionals. This seminar will be presented live on March 18, 2026, and recorded for on-demand viewing post-webinar. Financial aid is available for public defenders and legal aid if needed.
Objectives:
- Identify the definition of Perinatal Mental Health Disorders (PMHDs)
- Describe how PMHD symptoms are temporary when treated properly
- Explain that individuals can fully recover from PMHDs
- Describe how Postpartum Psychosis is a treatable medical emergency and may require temporary hospitalization
- Explain the importance of employing an expert in perinatal mental health
