PSI Trainings FAQs

FAQs about PSI Certificate Trainings

Q: Are all PSI training sessions open for public registration?

A: Most PSI Trainings are open to the public and include participants from any location unless the local host group requests that the training be restricted to specific attendees, e.g., residents of their state.

Q: How do I get the most up-to-date information about upcoming training events? Do you have any scheduled this year?

A: Visit postpartum.net/professionals/psi-certificate-training to find scheduled trainings. For updates, subscribe to our mailing list.

Q: What topics does the PSI 2-Day Training Cover?

A: You’ll find our standardized curriculum here. (Scroll down the page to find the agenda.) postpartum.net/professionals/psi-certificate-training

Q: What psychotherapeutic theories or models is the PSI curriculum based on?

A: The information presented at our training is based on evidenced-based therapeutic models and approaches, which incorporate interpersonal therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, group therapy, couples therapy, and parent-infant therapy.

Q: Do all webinars and training sessions offer Continuing Education credits?

A: PSI provides CEs for physicians (CMEs), nurses (CNEs), psychologists (through APA), New York Psycologists and NY Social Workers, Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), and California MFTs and LCSWs (California Board of Behavioral Sciences). PSI can apply for state social work boards by request if we have more than 90 days’ notice before the training.

Q: Are CEs an extra fee?

A: CEs are included in the cost of some events and are an extra fee at some. Please refer to the details and registration page of each event for CE cost and details. In either case, please make sure to bring your license number to all events–it is required to receive CEs.

Q: What is the difference between the PSI/Policy Center webinar and the PSI 2-day PSI training?

A: Overall, The PSI/Policy Center webinar and the PSI two-day training cover much of the same core material. The obvious difference is the in-person vs. webinar format. The in-person trainings provide networking opportunities with like-minded professionals, while the webinar allows you to gain access to the training from the comfort of your own home without the travel expenses. The webinar also places you in small groups, according to time zone, for group discussions between classes.

Both trainings provide the first pre-requisite toward Certification in Perinatal Mental Health.

The PSI 2-day in-person training includes a panel of Perinatal Mental Health Disorder survivors who share their compelling journeys with the audience.

In the 8-week webinar training, one is exposed to the presentations of six or seven different experts in the field. The webinar goes a little more in depth on the topics of therapeutic and legal issues, and offers an entire class on cultural considerations.

Q: What is the cost of the PSI/Policy Center webinar training series?

A: The cost of the webinar training series is $420 for PSI members and $500 for non-members.

Q: Does PSI offer different credentials, or do all of the available training options result in the same title/certificate? What is that title/certificate called?

A: Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders: Components of Care offers a certificate and a badge to place on your website that confirms you have completed the 2-day certificate training. The online webinar series also provides a certificate of completion.

Q: What is the difference between a “certification” and a “certificate?” What can I call myself after I complete the 2-day training?

A: After completing the 2-day Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders: Components of Care training, you can say that you have a “certificate of completion in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders from Postpartum Support International.”

Q: Are there any prerequisites to take PSI training? The webinar is indicated for “mental health and clinical professionals.”

A: There are no prerequisites to register for and participate in the training sessions. PSI training is open to all!

Q: Does PSI have an online peer/social support training?

A: Yes, the PSI social support training is designed for advocates and support providers who provide peer support, developing groups, and support networks for pregnant and postpartum individuals and their families. Includes information and expertise regarding support groups, online support, community networks, volunteers, and culturally-informed support.

Q: Is there a PSI training coming to my city?

A: PSI schedules regionally-based, open-to-the-public 3-day training sessions. This information will be posted as the sessions are scheduled, so continue to visit postpartum.net/professionals/psi-certificate-training/ for updated information.

Q: Is it alright to bring my infant to PSI training?

A: Yes! Babes-in-arms are welcome at PSI events.
