Ann Smith, RN, CNM
Ann Smith is an RN, certified nurse midwife and women’s health nurse practitioner. She graduated from Cornell University School of Nursing with a BSN and Columbia University with an MSN specializing in Midwifery. Her long career has included delivering babies and providing perinatal care within the hospital setting, as well as a 15-year stint at The Maternity Center Association in New York City, the nation’s first accredited out-of-hospital birth center. Her career also included many years working for Planned Parenthood in New York City where she provided well-woman gynecology care, family planning and other services. Following the birth of her second child, Ann experienced severe anxiety and depression at a time before much was known about proper treatment. Once recovered, that experience led to her current passion and involvement with all things having to do with perinatal mental health disorders. She has led support groups, trained clinicians, volunteered as the Postpartum Support International Coordinator for New York, lectured widely, and served on the board of PSI. Ann served as board President from 2014-2020. She is currently on PSI’s Advisory Council, works as a consultant, serves as Vice Chair at Fairwinds-Nantucket’s Counseling Center, and is on the outreach committee of her local church. Now a full-time resident of Nantucket, Ann is married with 3 adult children and 2 grandchildren.
