Samantha Suffren MD
Dr. Samantha Suffren is a board certified neuropsychiatrist. After earning an undergraduate degree in biochemistry as a Howard Hughes Fellow at North Carolina State University, and a stint in research, she pursued medicine at East Carolina University to follow a dream of becoming a rural family medicine practitioner. But she fell in love with psychiatry and attended Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center where she completed her residency in that field.
Dr. Suffern was an associate professor at UNC Chapel Hill Nurse Practitioner program and continues to support other programs as a clinic preceptor and supervisor. A former president of the Charlotte Area Psychiatric Society, she has served as the medical director and department chair at Novant Rowan Regional Medical Center where she helped develop the Lynn Geriatric Inpatient Program.
Dr. Suffren has a passion for women’s mental wellness and preventive care, which led her to act as Novant Presbyterian Hospital’s Women’s Mental Health Champion where she helped pilot the screening process for postpartum depression for all new mothers within the Greater Charlotte Novant Healthcare System. She also started Women’s Transitional Healthcare, a clinic focusing on women’s mental wellness, empowerment, prevention, and the stabilization of mental illness.
