The Alliance for People of Color (known as The Alliance) is a US-based program founded in February 2017 by three perinatal mental health professionals, Divya B. Kumar, LICSW, Sc.M., PMH-C, Jabina Coleman, LCSW, IBCLC, and Desirée Israel, PhDc, LCSW-C, LICSW, LCSW, CBS who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC).

In 2022, the Alliance became a fully funded program within Postpartum Support International to expand its reach by increasing perinatal support, awareness, and education services for providers and communities that identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color. The Alliance offers professional development programs, access to information in English and Spanish, and support tailored to the specific cultural, emotional, and systemic needs of BIPOC communities throughout the US and internationally.

The Alliance offers several programs to develop BIPOC providers, including our webinars, Fellowship, Maternal Mental Health Forum, and PMH-C coaching.

The Alliance offers webinars in English and Spanish that focus on the unique challenges of BIPOC communities and providers. Webinars are led by BIPOC perinatal experts and discounted to Alliance members. Interpretation services are offered periodically to increase the accessibility of webinars offered in English and Spanish.

The Alliance Fellowship aims to increase the research, education, skills, and expertise of BIPOC providers with at least 2 years of experience working with communities during the perinatal period. The Fellowship is offered once a year over a 10-month period. Fellows will learn from leading experts, contribute to research with a group capstone project, and join a community of passionate providers. Prospective Fellows must be a member of the Alliance.

The Alliance PMH-C Coaching Program is a 4 week study group offered once a quarter. This program is led by expert PMH-C coaches who review the top 4 sections on the PMH-C exam Blueprint. This exclusive Alliance member benefit offers group support and study tips within a community learning space to prepare for the PMH-C exam.

The Maternal Mental Health Forum is a free virtual event occurring once a year in May that features presentations, workshops, and networking spaces with experts and advocates. View last year’s Forum recordings on our YouTube channel.

Tune into our monthly live web series in English and Spanish, Coloring the Conversation on Perinatal Mental Health that provides valuable discussions and support on perinatal mental health and cultural considerations for BIPOC communities.
